CORKTOWN’S FIRST MOVIE THEATRE

Buildings are structures that for the most part hide their true identity, unless there’s a plaque explaining why it’s a historic building. Jane Jacobs once said, “While you are looking, you might as well also listen, linger and think about what you see.”
This self-guided audiovisual is produced as a means of sharing the ‘reel’ story of Corktown’s first movie theatre, and in an attempt to preserve the built history of this overlooked edifice. Initially released during Jane’s Walk Toronto 2020, this revised version presents an account of what has happened within the span of one year.
