Allen Greenway Section of the Northwest Cultural Trail – by bike or subway

Al Rezoski

Jane Jacobs was one of the civic leaders who stopped construction of the Spadina Expressway (now Allen Road) south of Eglinton Avenue West. The Allen Greenway is a proposed 3 km long linear park/Privately Owned Public Space along the west and east side of Allen Road between Highway 401 and Eglinton Avenue West. It is secured in the Lawrence Allen Secondary Plan. The Greenway is a section of the proposed 25 km long Northwest Cultural Trail from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre to the Jack Layton Ferry Docks. Learn about recently installed public art, the implementation of park master plans, Yorkdale Shopping Centre redevelopment and Greenway, new affordable housing, proposed new parks, art and accessibility improvements to four subway stations, the Lawrence Heights revitalization plan including a new community centre, Little Jamaica Cultural District Plan and other planning studies in the area, and planned connections to the 9 km long York and Kay Gardner Beltline Parks.

If you don’t have a bike the nearest Toronto Bike Share Stations are at the west side of Marlee Avenue south of Roselawn Avenue, Viewmount Park, and Glencairn subway station. There is a walking option if you want to take the subway between stops on the Yonge-University line.
