Toronto After Dark: Culture, Change, and the Future of Nightlife
Travis Van Wyck, City of Toronto, Economic Development, supported by Cassandra Alves, City of Toronto, Social Development
Moving through the entertainment district, step into Toronto’s nightlife with a guided walking conversation led by the City’s Night Economy team. Along the way, explore the sounds, spaces, and stories that have shaped the city after dark and continue to influence its future.
From the underground rave scene of the late 1980s to the rise and transformation of the Entertainment District, the walk traces how music, culture, and policy have intersected to make Toronto a major North American nightlife hub, while asking how it can continue to evolve. As Toronto rethinks how to support a vibrant, safe, and inclusive night, participants will be introduced to the City's Night Economy work and the King West Safety Plan.
This experience is designed as both a learning opportunity and a platform for conversation, offering insights into Toronto’s Night Economy and the City’s broader efforts, including current initiatives.
Part history, part cultural exploration, part civic conversation, this experience offers an opportunity to engage with Toronto after dark and imagine the future of Toronto's nightlife.
