Geary Ave: Vibrancy in an Industrial Space
Olivia Falcone, Transportation Planner; Nadya Mrochkovskaia, Environmental Planner
Thank you for everyone who attended last year! This walk is back by popular demand and we have two timeslots this year. We will limit the number of people due to safety reason so please RSVP to: gearyavewalk@gmail.com.
From a glance, Geary Avenue seems to be a place for industrial uses only, but when you walk along this street, you discover a variety of creative community initiatives and innovative business practices. Join us to learn about the history of Geary Avenue and how people have created a sense of belonging here. This walk will explore the place-making in one unique part of the Junction-Wallace Emerson neighbourhood. Along the walk, we will discover how craft breweries, sandwich and pizza shops, car repair garages, music spaces, community gardens, and art galleries have created a vibrant destination place. Despite its proximity to downtown Toronto, Geary Avenue has managed to escape gentrification and continues to provide a space for its local community.
