Laneway Suites to Local Eats: Walking Dovercourt Road with City Planners
Philip Parker, Daniel Kolominsky
Curious about laneway housing, multiplexes, and other forms of low-rise housing popping up around Toronto? Ever wondered why some neighbourhoods have corner stores, cafés, and other small businesses, while others don’t?
Low-rise multi-unit housing is often called the “missing middle” between single family homes and high-rise towers, but this tour highlights how in many areas of Toronto, this type of housing isn’t missing at all. Please join planners from the City of Toronto on this walk on and around Dovercourt Road as we explore the neighbourhood. On the way, we’ll talk about some of the projects the City is doing to encourage more of this type of housing and small-scale retail to Toronto, using examples on and around Dovercourt to illustrate what it could look like.
We’ll end our tour at a local corner store / café where you’ll be able to grab a drink or snack and take a break before continuing on with your day.
