Ruins to Renewal: The Story of the Brick Works
Barbara Samuel & Harriet Simand
From the late 1800s to the 1980s, the Don Valley Brick Works produced the bricks that built much of Toronto. Now, nature now weaves through wetlands and hiking trails. On this walk, we’ll talk bricks, late night raves, near-misses with condo development, and how a community rallied to turn an abandoned site into a thriving centre for ecological innovation and community connection.
It's a story about how decay gave way to renewal, and how everyday people can reimagine what’s possible in the heart of a city.
