Scarborough Poetry Walk in Ron Watson Park

Anna Nieminen

"You my Love, are a walking poem" - From the poem Serenade by Jeevan Bhagwat

"Grief to gratitude/ relation renewed." - From the poem Waiting Willow by Anna Nieminen

Whether you've been secretly scribbling poems or you've published polished poetry, you are a poet! This poetry walk is for everyone: those who have read or recited "page" or "spoken word" poetry in an intimate group or for the public, and those who have been contemplating sharing a poem for the first time. Bring a poem to read/recite or simply come for the poetry appreciation. Perhaps this poetry walk will inspire you to write your first or your next poem. The theme for this poetry gathering is open, but here are some suggestions: parks, nature, trees, urban wildlife; walking, cycling, wheeling or other outdoor activities; love, family, community; weather, seasons, climate change; organizing and activism.

We will be meeting in front of Scarborough's Agincourt Library and heading into nearby Ron Watson Park. We will be making stops in the park at the curious silo relic and under the trees, as well as along the walking path beside West Highland Creek and on the bridge over the creek. We will read and appreciate poems at the stops and have walking conversations between stops. The uneven terrain is a combination of sidewalks, paved paths and grass.
