Sports in the City: How fun and games have shaped Toronto

Arieh Chaiton

For over 100 years, Toronto sports fans have gathered in venues across the city to watch their favourite events. Some have been preserved and adapted to modern uses, while others are remembered with only a plaque. Each of these venues tells the story of the time period they are from.

Some questions we will explore are: What kind of events took place? Who were the participants? Who builds, owns and manages these structures? How do we get to these venues?

This walk invites all who would like to explore the places where Torontonians have gathered to cheer on their favourite athletes and teams. From Exhibition Place to Maple Leaf Gardens, this roughly 7km walk is an opportunity to connect with like-minded people and share your favourite memories of watching sports in the city.
