The Parkdale Power Hour: Safety, Storytelling, and Main Street Resilience
Julie Fernandez & Indra Morrison
Parkdale Village is a living, breathing ecosystem of historic architecture, resilient small businesses, and community stewards. How does a business community come together to care for its commercial main street? Join the Parkdale Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) for a walking conversation that goes behind the scenes of neighbourhood main street stewardship.
Starting at the World Peace Monument, the BIA will provide a brief history of Parkdale's commercial evolution. The walk will continue along the Queen Street West strip to see the results of the BIA's recent Power Hour community clean-up. We will discuss the daily "invisible" work of the BIA, from beautification and streetscape repairs to our new upcoming branding initiatives that support our local business members. The tour will end back at the BIA office with light refreshments.
This walk is about the sidewalk ballet of today. You will meet a few local shop owners, discuss the mechanics of business support, and see how a focused hour of collective care can strengthen the bond of a historic Toronto commercial district.
