Our First Date
Rea Sweets
Thanks so much for coming on this date with me! I hope you don’t mind that this is my go-to date, one I’ve done roughly a dozen plus times over the last 9 years. It’s my first time sharing that secret with anybody to be quite honest. But can you really blame me for not wanting to create ~everlasting~ memories tied to specific places all over the city that will forever remind me of the ones that got away, and the ones that let me down?? Here’s my odd solution: what if all those memories were collected in one single place? In the Koreatown/Annex area, all my memories, whether tainted or cherished, blend together. Diluted to a juicy, tangy pulp I can swallow whole. I know I may have engineered our first date as an emotional safeguard that has worked very well for me… but I promise it will still be very special!!

This is an experiential discussion and activity-based immersive ‘First Date’ walk which will investigate the ways we manage emotional associative risk in city spaces through protection, memory, and ritual. (But also crushes, matcha lattes, and blowing bubbles). Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences and opinions.
Recommended for: proactive romantics, immersive roleplay enthusiasts, and fans of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
To note: Sidewalks will be busy and there will be one long staircase. We’ll stop at the beginning at a cafe to grab drinks, and pause at a dessert spot on the way back. There are points of the walk where you will be free to explore a store, and then we will reconvene.
Route: From Tobbi Cafe we’ll walk along Bloor street until we hit Brunswick and Bloor, then we’ll turn back and end at Christie Pits Park.
