Stories From my City: Poetry and Prose From the Heart of Sauga
Amy Liou
Join Amy, an avid writer, local author and spoken word artist, on a relaxing and introspective walk around Mississauga’s city centre and listen to an array of poems and personal narratives inspired by her own lived experiences in the city.
The walk will begin with an intimate poetry reading, a writing session, an open mic (participation is voluntary though highly encouraged!), and finally, a stop by Java U, a Montreal-born cafe with a location here in Sauga. Walkers will have an opportunity to learn more about other writing events in Mississauga or the Peel Region and just learn about writing in general.
Potential walk destinations: Kariya Park, Civic Centre/AGM, Java U, Hazel McCallion Public Library
Amy Liou is a Taiwanese-Canadian author in Mississauga, Ontario. She studied Environment, Resources and Sustainability and International Development at the University of Waterloo before deciding to pursue a teaching degree at Ontario Tech University.
Can We Talk About It? is her first and current poetry book featuring intimate and radical poems about relationships, mental health, LGBTQQIP2SAA stories and other social justice issues. Forever a hopeless romantic, Amy may have lost count of the number of crushes she has had, but these fleeting moments of desire will always live on in her writing.
